Every extenuating circumstance comes along with a lesson, or rather an opportunity to grow. Every miniscule problem or experience one can learn something about themselves that they didn’t know until they have faced it. An extenuating circumstance may come in every form, it depends on the person and how they deal with it. When I’m in the midst of a situation I try to remain composed, in control, and patient. I just did not expect an unavoidable situation to arise in the middle of a conversation with a five year old. One has to have the patience and the energy to have a conversation with a five or six year old. Despite the possibility of being judged in turn causing me to pause and reconsider talking to another individual in contrast, when I’m surrounded by children or am maintaining one on one conversation, I feel at ease. Children state the obvious and befriend quickly. Children may be judgemental and observant as well, but they acquire the ability to accept you and your flaws.
I participated in a program called PAL’s, where we mentor children from the grade levels of pre-kindergarten to fifth grade. Their teachers and staff recommended them to be a part of the program because of their difficulty of making friends, trouble at home, or complications grasping a concept or homework. But Darlene couldn’t. I was eternally grateful for the person who nominated me and thought that I was capable and compassionate enough to be able to become Darlene’s friend. If I was not in the program, someone else would have befriended her and have been able for her to want to become more active and social in school. But I am glad that I was the one who could impact her and she was the one who has impacted
