Did you know that most people in society experience a coming-of-age event in their lifetime? Coming of age is a moment in an individual’s life when they experience a change of thought. It can be where they have something that happens, where they can have empathy and feel differently about the world. One type of coming of age is experiencing loss. Another type of coming of age is the perception of parents. In the story The House On Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, Ezpranza experiences loss when her aunt dies. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Ralph experiences the perception of parents because he is the leader of the group and its difficult for him to control the kids and he understands what his parents feel in the world.
