The Central Railroad was first established in an industrial region of Elizabeth, Union County, Jersey City, in the early 1800’s. The inactive train line has provided transportations for broad array of people, as well as freight services until 1886. Factors that cause the downfall of CNJ were environmental issues, inflexible government regulations, competitor railroads, and heavyweight taxation of New Jersey. Inevitably, this precipitated bankruptcy of CNJ and underwent consolidation into the Conrail System in 1967. Regardless of its demise, CNJ laid the foundation of transportation and remains as the focal point in Liberty State Park. .
