Our meat consumption has quadrupled since 1961. To keep up with this demand we came up with factory farming. Factory farming is farming set up like a factory. They can have manure in the meat, or the animals can be sick, and that meat can still be sold to us. The worker are mistreated and have to work in dangerous situations. Plus, antibiotic resistance has been becoming a problem more and more as the years go on. This can be caused by the overuse of antibiotics in our animals that we eat, the antibiotics are no longer being just used to treat animal’s infections, they are being used to make the animals bigger, which mean we are getting antibiotics in almost every animal product that we eat. When we eat these and the antibiotics get into our system it can start to cause a resistance in our bodies, which can get us sick or kill us (The Trouble with Antibiotics). Factory farming is how we get most of our food in the US, and it is a problem. It’s messy and abusive, there is no respect to the animals. With the respect lost and profit seeking the goal health consequence for both the buyer and the environment can be seen. Greenhouse gases are being emitted at a high rate, which is hurting the Earth. Water and land are being over-used. The animals are suffering. Humans are suffering too, we are getting sick from the meat, antibiotic resistance is on the rise, and the works are often
