In 1953, Ray Bradbury published Fahrenheit 451, a book presuming books would become unwanted in the futuristic American society. Sixty-two years later, there is obvious proof that the amount of Americans who read books has decreased. According to Jordan Weissmann, “The number of non-book-readers has nearly tripled since 1978.” Weissmann also reported, that the amount of adults that have read a book for pleasure in twelve months has decreased seven percent in eighteen to twenty-four year olds, and six percent in all adults. This decrease in reading may come from the abundance of activities and technology Americans have access to.
