“Knowledge is the eye of desire and can become the pilot of the soul.” This famous quote is an interpretation of the power knowledge can hold. In Fahrenheit 451, Montag, the protagonist, is blinded to the truth. Fortunately, this all takes a turn when he meets a girl named Clarisse. Clarisse, a new neighbor, is a curious individual who is fond of asking questions. She asks Montag the question “are you happy” which is what fueled Montag’s desire to learn about books. Acquiring knowledge from books and knowing how to read is crucial to society's survival and prosperity; a lack of knowledge could cause people to become uneducated and corrupt.
