Montag begins to realize that everyday things used in the society are just distractions from seeing the big picture. In the book he questions Mildred’s “family”, he asks “Millie does” -he licked his lips- “ does your ‘family’ love you, love you very much, love you with all their heart and soul, Millie” (73). The government always wants to look squeaky clean to it’s people, like their method in society is working. In part three the government fakes Montag’s capture, the book reads “ ‘There’s Montag! The search is done!’ An innocent man stood bewildered, a cigarette burning in his hand” (142). The government wants society so se the consequences of what Montag’s actions were. If they had let the people know that Montag had not been found, people would’ve started to think and rebel. They wanted to reassure society just how well their system worked. Bradbury’s fictional world seemed to are own world today, though it stretched the truth there are many similarities between our society and this one. Banning books for example is actually against the law in this novel, in the book it says “ ‘Do you ever read any of the books you burn?’ He laughed ‘That’s against the law!’ ” (5). Books may not be against the law but they definitely are censored in our society. Parents and teachers ban certain books in schools and libraries because they feel the children shouldn’t be exposed to certain kinds of literature. The only difference in Bradbury’s society is that,they believe all literature should be banned.
