Apology
In Apology, the dialog begins with Socrates standing trail and making a short speech. In his speech Socrates will respond to the accusations, rumors, and claims made against him. These accusations arose from various things Socrates did, of which, testing his wisdom. Socrates visited a number of different people whom claimed to be wise. In each event, he put the person’s reputation to the test. In each case, the individual failed the test, to be wise. These wise men eventually talked negativity about Socrates. This resulted in the consequence of a large number of enemies against him. Thus, this resulted in a bad hit for Socrates.
Socrates then mentions another accusation brought upon him. Some of the young people of the wealthier class liked him. This was because they enjoyed the way he exposed the people whom claimed to be wise. These rich young people became part of the accusers. Now, a third accusation arose. Meletus claimed that Socrates is evil and he corrupts the young people. Meletus also said that Socrates is an atheist. Socrates defends against him with questions and statements. Here Socrates awaits his execution. However, he is visited by Crito. Crito wanted to help Socrates escape out of prison. Crito presents to Socrates two good arguments to escape. The first argument is that he would be aiding his enemies by staying and will be acting wrongfully to himself. The second argument is that he would be abandoning his family. Socrates refused these arguments and presented him with a counter argument. After all of this, Socrates brings up the Laws of Athens. These laws tell and explain that it would be wrong for him to escape prison. Thus, Socrates didn’t want to brake the laws and become a criminal he refused to escape the
