There are many themes scattered throughout the novella The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. However, the theme of family duty is the most prominent. With the characters, setting, and word choice, Kafka illustrates just how important well balanced responsibilities are within a family dynamic. The Samsas are not a normal family for this time period. At this time, the father is usually the only working member of the family.
