Famine in Ethiopia
Famine is very horrid! Have you ever been in famine? Well in Ethiopia there was famine.They are starving and dying of hunger and being moved and also blocking their aid so no one can give them food. They have a climate and political conflict: drought doesn't always cause conflict: Ethiopia, political conflict to blame. How did the Ethiopian government cause more people to starve and die? As you read this paper you will be learning about how Ethiopian government made famine worse by taking food, moving people, and blocking aid. One way the government made famine in Ethiopia worse is by taking their food. Some evidence from the Etiopia mini-Q packet is that “Ethiopians had to give surplus grain to the government.”(Document B) This is taking Ethiopia’s food because they can’t plant cause of the rain. Another piece of evidence is “They had to sell and slaughter animals to pay taxes.”Ethiopians had no money to pay so they had to use their animals to pay off their taxes. This affected them because they were weak and leaders did not have the experience of traveling. Some evidence from Ethiopia mini-Q packet is “They spent $374 million to move people from Eritrea to western provinces.”(Document C) They had to spend money to move people because the people from Ethiopia are weak. Another piece of evidence is “Leaders didn’t have experience moving people.” (Document D) The leaders of the group of people were very weak also and didn’t know how to keep control of a large group of people. One other piece of evidence is “So focused on being a communist victory that it endangered people.” This program policy worsened the famine because the government spent a ton of money on an unsuccessful program.
