Megan Brooks and Davis Houck have chronicled the speeches of Fannie Lou Hamer in the book, The Speeches of Fannie Lou Hamer. Included in this compilation of court transcripts as well as many of Hamer’s speeches, including the famous I’m Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired speech. Brooks and David detail many of the experiences of Hamer with brief commentary, however, this book primarily lets Hamer’s own words tell the story. This is a primary source because it is a compilation of both court and speech transcripts. The Speeches of Fannie Lou Hamer is an important contribution to this project because she instrumental in the black suffrage movement, additionally she worked to establish programs for family services and minorities.
