In the story “No, I Do Not Want to Pet Your Dog” by Farhad Manjoo, the author is creating an angry tone. In the beginning of the story, the author talks about going to the gym and seeing a member with a dog. Instantly, the author becomes agitated as soon as the dog comes up. As soon as this happens the author’s tone goes from happy to irritated because they do not understand why there is a dog in a place built for humans. The words used in this story affects the reader in a negative way due to the reason the author talks negatively about the dog and how he did not understand why the dog was allowed in the gym. The message was definitely effective but it did lack positivity. A little positivity could have been good for the story due to the reason all the negativity in the story made readers have a negative or upset attitude. If in the reader’s shoes, a little positivity would definitely be added to the essay so readers could enjoy the story a little more. Another thing that would be done differently if in the author’s shoes, would be the beginning of the story. The author automatically went negative by discussing that they felt obligated to pet the owner’s dog. If in the author’s shoes, the beginning of the story would definitely not start off with the negativity. When writing an essay, the author should always think about possible readers. The question what if the reader is a young kid should come to mind when writing a story about a dog. If the reader is young, then most likely the parent would not want their kid seeing that much negativity in an essay. That is definitely something that would be changed if in the author’s shoes. The content of this essay was well thought out and well written. The content was also in the reader’s opinion very understanding. The purpose of the essay was also well written and understanding especially since the author put emotions in the
