Resulting in a fast, often obnoxious, energy rush. The rush itself may only last half an hour after which kids often crash. When students eat more complex carbohydrates and proteins they have longer lasting energy and concentration. In return when students can concentrate and work more efficiently their performances and overall grades go up. The level of sugar and carbohydrates in school meals needs to go down and in doing so we could see as much as a 5% boost in grades. When you ingest refined sugars, there is a large chance your not only taking in an unhealthy amount of sugar, but also large amounts of artificial additives and preservatives. The European Union has banned over one thousand chemicals from processed foods. In the United States only fifty of these harmful chemicals are outlawed. In recent years food corporations have been adding more and more artificial flavors and colors to our foods, because this is a relatively new trend we do not yet know the long term effects of the consumption of these foods. If our school system were to eliminate foods high in artificial ingredients we would be preventing future health issues related to fake foods. Many children in our school system rely on the meals
