Fate is the development of events beyond a person’s control, regarded as determined by supernatural power. In the short story the monkey paw by W.W. Jacobs, Sargent Major Morris come to visit his friends, Mr. and Mrs. whites from India. Sargent Morris brings with him a monkey paw that was given to him by a fakir to grant three wishes. Sargent Morris was really scared of the consequences that given after his wishes was granted, so he decided to get rid of it by burning it. Mr. White didn’t allow him to destroy it, instead he kept it to himself. Mr. White made a wish for 200 pounds to pay off his house.
