The scene where Gyurka gives his father a hug for the last time before his father leaves for a labor camp reminds me of all the families that must have been torn apart during the holocaust. Countless families must have been affected the same way Gyurka’s was. The scene also reminded me of all the people that were exterminated during the Holocaust. He is then taken to the hospital where he is then treated. Unfortunately, his leg is infected and is then taken to the hospital where he is treated with unexpected kindness; maybe the officers wanted to do experiments on him. Soon after, the camp Gyurka is in is liberated by the Americans. That scene reminds me of all the people that had been the subjects of gruesome experimentation as well as the egregious injuries that the people must have got in the camps. It gave me a good idea of what it was like in the larger concentration camps such as Auschwitz and Treblinka; it made me think of my Hungarian family members and how they themselves were a few of those dead bodies that eventually went up in smoke. It made me feel awful for my family members as well as all the poor people that were unfortunate to get gassed and
