When preparing for success, one of the best decisions students can make is deciding to take FDLS 130: Language and Communications Course in college. FDLS 130 is a course that focuses on many different topics that will help students improve their writing and verbal communication skills. Writing is difficult and learning to write well is even more so, however, possessing good writing skills bring students great benefits. Anecdotal evidence suggests that academic writing remains a source of anxiety for many undergraduates as they lack understanding of what the writing process involves and fear what may be expected of them. Simply put, grammar is the foundation for effective communication. Communicating correctly means students will communicate without errors that will hinder understanding of meaning, and communicating effectively means students will have the ability to clearly express their thoughts, feelings, wants, or needs. Improper grammar usage can affect the meaning and coherence of an intended thought or message. Grammatical errors are easy to make, so just as rules are important in daily situations, grammar rules are also important in daily situations for the understanding of purpose and meaning.
