There are different types of drug charges on the federal level. The charge can only be a federal charge when the charge is more serious than a usual charge or there was an undercover federal agent. The most common way that a federal charge can be make is through drug trafficking or distribution. There are different drug charges on the federal level there are five most common charges. Simple drug possession which is just a passion charge of a controlled substance without having a proscription. They are often charged at the state level if there was no intent to distribute it.
