I believe the principle of federalism did work in the case of Hurricane Katrina. Federalism is the federal principle or system of the government. This is when states have power along with the national government.Officials working during Hurricane Katrina followed this on local, state and federal levels.
At the local level, the mayor and local police enforcement are in charge. Before the storm, local officials loaded bottle water and snacks such as Pop-tarts to warehouses. During the storm, local officials called for a mandatory evacuation of New Orleans. They also let local residents use the Superdome as shelter. After the storm, local authorities sent in supplies from grocery stores from near by states and victims took supplies out of abandoned
