The second section of the third wave, includes Anna, Elsa, and Moana. The third wave in two different parts, because while Tiana from Princess and the Frog, and Rapunzel in Tangled needed a prince to help them achieve their dreams, Anna, Elsa, and Moana did not. The movie Frozen was the first time in a Disney Princess movie where a man did not save the princesses. Anna and Elsa are sisters who worked together throughout the movie to save each other. In the movie, “True love can thaw a frozen heart” is a very popular quote from this film, however in Elsa and Anna’s case, true love does not have to be from a man, like earlier Disney Princess films. True love can be from family members as well. Although the men did not do the saving in this film, there were still love interests included in the storyline. This was a huge step forward in the feminism included in a Disney Princess movie. However, in Moana the newest Disney Princess is a different kind of princess, as there is absolutely no love interest included. Moana does not need anyone else to save her, she goes against the stereotype of her role in her village, takes risks, and saves herself to achieve her dream. Even in today's society, the first wave of Disney Princesses are still a huge part in a young children's life. However, children will not see what is wrong with these movies because they are just looking up to them. The new waves of Disney Princesses allow young children to see that they don’t need a significant other to save them. Family and themselves are the most important. Disney Princesses have a huge impact on society, thankfully, Disney has started to create stronger female leads so young girls can look up to these princesses and allow future society have strong and powerful
