Fenrir or Fenrisulfr is a giant wolf from Norse Mythology. He originated around the areas of Norway and Iceland. He’s story was passed traditionally by story tellers for a long time before appearing in literature around the 10th and 11th centuries. He has appeared in many books about Norse mythology including the recent book by Rick Riordan “The Sword of Summer”. In Harry Potter there is a representation of him as a werewolf death eater. He also appears in Thor: Ragnarok and many other movies about Norse mythology.

Fenrir is the child of Loki the god of mischief and Angrboda ,a female frost Jotunn or giantess, he is their youngest. His oldest siblings are Jormungandr the world serpent, which bites it’s on tail, and Hel the goddess of the Dead. He was the only one not to be kicked out of Asgard by Odin. He is the father of the wolves Skoll and Hati who in some stories he had with Angrboda, yes that is his mother, in others they never say who their mother is.

He was living in Asgard for a long time then Odin got scared of his strength so he trys to trick Fenrir by having him get chained and says to try and break it. Fenrir then destroys the strongest chain they can make. So Odin has the dwarves make a super strong magic chain and the gods trick him again. But Fenrir says one of the gods must put their hand in is mouth. When he isn’t able to escape he then bites off the god Tyr who was the only one who would do it. So until Ragnarok he is chained on the island of Lyngvi until someone breaks the magic
