It’s 10:09, the start of “A” lunch. I am just one of the many students of Wylie E. Groves High School who patiently awaits the sweet sound of the bell releasing us from 2nd hour. Lunch lines are quickly formed as I examine the many choices that Groves has to offer. All morning I was wishing to have a healthy and proper lunch to prepare me for my Track meet that afternoon. I searched in vain, unable to find an appropriate lunch to fill my growling stomach.
Hot Cheetos, cheese pizza, pop tarts, frozen yogurt and nachos was the majority of what I noticed when I scanned the school cafe. Why is everything here junk food? I made the choice to stand in the lunch line for 6 minutes to receive a sandwich filled with lettuce, tomatoes, and toxic smelling

“It’s important that every student has access to a filling lunch. Focus in the classroom will increase, resulting in higher test scores and improved health. No child should be left hungry.”
The budget may restrict us but, it's possible to serve nutritious and appealing lunches for a low cost. Not only is eating healthy good for your health, it's great in the classroom too. Just some of the benefits of a filling lunch are; higher grades, increased focus in class, better attendance, and more well-behaved children.
Sibylle Kranz, an associate professor of education at the University of Virginia and a certified child nutrition epidemiologist reports that "Children are growing, Muscle is being built; bone is being built; the brain is developing," Kranz said. “There is pretty solid evidence that children who are hungry are not able to focus, so they have a low attention span, behavioral issues, and discipline issues in the school," she said. "So having children who are well-fed and not hungry makes a difference in their individual performance and also how much they are contributing or disrupting the classroom
