The movie was fascinating and very informative, especially the stories of the individuals that were impacted by either mental illnesses, sickness, being born prematurely, seizures, dyslexia, schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s disease. The video made it easier to understand this very complex organ. It was fascinating to see the brain from before birth, through childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and aging. The insight of some of the studies were fascinating and exciting. Doctors and Neuroscientist have learned a lot about the brain and many individuals can get help today because of all the great research that has been done. Starting with the premature babies and how they minimized the sensory stimulation because the noises and lights of the neonatal intensive care unit contributes to cognitive difficulties in premature babies. The consequences of the left hemisphere removal to treat seizures was also very fascinating and dramatic, and how well the right hemisphere adapted and the children were able to relearn how to speak and walk. And how something like reading is actually a very complex human cognitive performance that uses many different skills in our brains and that we take for granted. Schizophrenia is an illness that frequently appears in late adolescences, a period where chemical, hormonal, and biological. It was interesting to learn that in adolescences who suffer from schizophrenia that the frontal lobe is not working properly. Adolescences are also prone to addictions and can fall into a deep addiction to drugs and alcohol. Adults suffering from PTSD and depression, dealing with emotions. It was also interesting to see how much the guy with PTSD suffered after his car accident. It came to mind that Soldiers who are deployed for 6 month to year go through intense situations day in and day out and how intense their PTSD symptom’s must be. It was nice to see that aging people can also help the function of their minds by keeping busy with either gardening, poetry or
