As Max Depree stated, “Movements suffer when leaders are unwilling to hold the group accountable.”11 Rainer and Geiger state, “A simple church is a congregation designed around a straightforward and strategic process that moves people through the stages of spiritual growth.”12 Elbert Hubbard stated, “Art is a process of elimination. The sculptor produces the beautiful statue by chipping away such parts of the marble block as are not needed.”13 This type of focus is necessary in building a simple church. Focus is the commitment to abandon everything that falls outside of the simple ministry process.14 Great organizations are focused and therefore they are able to break barriers and reach new heights. If churches want to be simple, they have to learn to say no and stick to their ministry plans.
Attractional Church
Attractional churches find ways to create fertile soil and when the time is right, preach the Gospel with grace and power. The Purpose Driven Church and The Twelve Characteristics of a Purpose Driven Church both explain in detail what it takes to be a purpose driven church.
