When a candidate runs for President of the United States, or in the case of the 2012 election, re-election for President Obama, they must answer the question of how they will prepare the country for an economically sound and prosperous future. The candidate must convince the American public of how his/her plan will best prepare the country for whatever challenges may come. In the first seconds of the video, President Obama is sitting in a middle class living room speaking to the camera. He states, “If I could sit down with you in your living room, or around the kitchen table, here’s what I’d say.” This statement takes a similar approach as President Franklin Roosevelt did with his “Fireside Speeches”, where he would give announcements and “talk” with the American citizens in their living rooms, around a fireplace. The first step of his plan create 1 million manufacturing jobs, help businesses double their exports, and give tax breaks to companies that invest in the United States rather than ship jobs over see. It is clear that President Obama is once again appealing to the emotions of the people of the middle class (manufacturing and factory workers). The video footage that is shown are generic video footage that is suppose to represent that average warehouse and factory worker. Even though the footage does not add much to his agenda, his credibility for job creation comes from the fact that when he took office, the United States was losing 800,000 jobs per month and he has turned that 800,000 deficit into gaining 250,000 jobs per month at the time this video was created (Citizen Wells News). This statistic comes from a demographic on a website, Citizen Wells News, that is devoted to putting the Obama administration on blast for all their successes and failures with a right wing
