“The Ford-Firestone Case”
This case actually started a little before the year 2000 with a phone call from a claim adjuster to an insurance company in Texas asking about Firestone tires threat separation. This call led to a significant research into the subject to found out that there were several cases with the sane characteristics going back a few years early.
The finding involved Firestone ATX tires and Ford Explorer SUV’s, resulting in crashes and rollovers caused by the sudden thread separation in the tire and the fault design of the vehicle. At the beginning of the year 2000 a Houston TV station reported a problem on Firestone tires and threat separation prompting viewers to report similar issues to regulators. To the surprise of the NHTSA and the public in general both of these companies have been hiding safety problems related to tires and SUV’s for years. Many internal documents stated that ford engineers were really concerned about the design and the suspension of the SUV and recommended changes but such recommendations were ignored due to the proximate to the introduction date of the vehicles to the market.
