Intro: Background information and introduction to the topic For it During America’s history, the controversial topic of flag-burning has arisen many times bringing massive conflict with it. This topic has risen in Supreme Court cases multiple times and has remained the biggest misinterpretation of the Constitution. Both sides have compelling evidence on why it is good and bad, but I think it should be illegal. The First Amendment protects the right to burn flags, but the divide and chaos that it brings should be evidence enough that it shouldn't be legal and should instead be illegal henceforth.

Body paragraph 1: The political cartoon and Aei Donald Trump burning of the flag.

The first reason I think the illegalization of burning the flag should be from a political cartoon given to us. It’s two soldiers walking on a battlefield and discussing why they are fighting this war. One of the soldiers responded with, “to protect the rights of every American and the rights of every Guantanamo terrorist to burn the flag”. It shows us the disrespect the people serving our country get from this act. These men are risking their lives for the greater good

Here we can see the burning of a flag isn't done in a peaceful manner; it's used as a threat towards Trump. This is one of the reasons why it should be illegal to burn something that means as much as that can be used in many different ways, like this instance where they burn it using it more like a weapon. In the same article, it was stated that 48 out of the 50 states had once forbidden it because of uses like this, but it was eventually allowed again, causing stuff like this to happen. Flag burning should be illegal because of the dangerous intent it can have behind it, threatening others with the representation of our country's symbol is a nasty look and makes us look less than
