Flowers for Algernon is a story about a man named Charlie Gordon who has a below average intelligence (IQ of 68). Charlie undergoes an operation to surgically increase his intelligence. People argue whether or not something like this is ethical. Ethics are defined as doing what is right according to laws, religion, or other personal beliefs. Charlie Gordon's doctors acted ethically when they performed the surgery to make Charlie smarter.
Tests were previously performed on animals. The tests were performed on animals such as Algernon, showed no major risks to the health of a human. The tests showed successful results of animals being able to retain intelligence that was surgically increased.
