I've been a volunteer at The Lord's Table Food Pantry(located in the Albany Park neighborhood here in Chicago, Illinois) since last September. The food pantry is run out of the Jesus House Chicago Church building, just off Montrose Ave and Kedzie Ave, on the north side of Chicago.
The Lord's Table Food Pantry's mission is to feed the community, and so it is open to just about everyone who lives in the Albany Park community, every Wednesday(except on public holidays), regardless of status, creed, age, or class.
Regular duties, for me, each week, at the pantry would include such tasks as; overseeing pantry operations, inventory checking, assisting with quality control inspections, stock rotation and shelf stocking, coordinating food pickups, supervising new volunteers, helping patrons in shopping the pantry, assisting with client intake, packaging of perishable food produce, cleanups, etc.

I also enjoy the relationship I have with the team and some of our regular patrons. We try to have as much fun as we can, even while we serve.
We hatched a secret plan to throw a surprise baby shower for 2 of our pantry members who are heavily pregnant; the one with a boy and the other with a girl. The 1-hour party was to take place on Wednesday, the 28th of June, between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm, right after the pantry was closed to the public for the day.
I was put in charge of planning the baby shower and ensuring its success. Using social media, we communicated the ideas we had for the party, got donations together, set the time for the party, and picked a theme. I then went to work on preparations for the party. Along with a fellow teammate, I went out to purchase decorations, gifts, food ingredients for the main course.
