The U.S economy fell into serious depressions during the 1870s and 1890s; therefore, the foreign policy began to change. Democracy was stated as the best system to promote peace and help the United States actively participate in foreign markets. Policy leaders and businessmen demanded that the U.S needed to pursue a foreign policy to open a new markets in order to escape the depressions. Between the 1900 and 1914, the U.S increased the exportation from 1.5 billion dollars of goods to 2.5 billion dollars of goods.
