Volunteer State Foundation provides funding for capital projects, academic program support, operational expenses not covered by state or federal funds, as well as scholarships for students.
The Foundation hosts several annual events each year to raise funds such as Harvest Moon Soiree, Golf Classic and Educate a Woman. According to Stacy Womelduff, the office supervisor and accounts manager, The Foundation also hosts events on campus to help raise money from employees such as a Halloween costume contest as well as jean and jersey day.
So far in the 2013-2014 year The Foundation has raised $654,000. That’s a step up from last years $450,000. According to Lynn Jones, foundations office Secretary ,The increase in funding from last year is due to the capital campaign that is raising money for the new humanities building.
Each year around $300,000 of scholarships are awarded from The Foundation. According to Rebecca McKinney, the scholarship coordinator, 885 students applied for scholarships and 160 will be awarded.
According to McKinney, Scholarships are funded by donations from members of the community as well as businesses. Many scholarships are established in memorial or tribute to a loved one.
