As Fr. Pedro Arrupe stated, ‘‘our prime educational objective must be to form men and women for others, who believe that a love of self or of God which does not issue forth in justice for the least of their neighbors is a farce.’’ Nothing more true could be said about the absolute purpose of the human soul. Whether this is shown in the innate care doctors show their patients or the guiding hand teachers show their pupils, the countless instances of helping others shows just how important it is to the community we all take part in. In saying this, Fr. Arrupe conveys a message of the goal of education which is ultimately produce citizens that help others. One person that comes to mind that displays selfless acts and completely shows the prime motive Fr. Arrupe describes is my church group leader Danny. Not only did he expose to others the helping and loving hand of God in his immediate area, he also traveled to parts of the world that don’t know Christianity in order to tell others of his religion. …show more content…
Arrupe gained personal experience that helped him shape what he wants to share with others. In going to medical school and then helping those injured from the atomic bombing in Hiroshima, Arrupe was able to truly grasp the essence of what it means to use education for the implicit good and help worldly neighbors. Fr. Arrupe sought to share his ideas and encourage more scholars to do the same. In the interim of his preeminent message, Arrupe also wants to convey the idea that using education for selfish endeavors is both foolish and ignorant. For example, a person may study to become a physician solely for the opportunity to make substantial income and gain prestige, rather than choosing to be a physician to help those in need. Fr. Arrupe conveys a message along with other intellectuals and leaders across the world that utilizing education is a means of instilling qualities that will help a person’s character and the world they take place
