I will tell you about a gentleman so often misunderstood, even when he walks amongst his very own; black but not black, black haired yet brown edged, African features and yet a Scottish nose; this gentleman so often misunderstood will go to all extents to find questions so often ignored. I will tell you about a gentleman whose personality contrasts as much as his very features. If you will heed my indulgence, I will tell you about Francis Martinson. Before I go into such contrasting and conflicting personalities Francis has had to live with, I will describe him to you and then maybe you will appreciate who this gentleman is. Francis is 5-foot 8 inches tall – shortest in his family. He is the only light skinned sibling of his dark-skinned family. He has made many strives in his search for self. This journey started rather at a tender age of 12 when he became self-conscious about his conflicting personalities, his goals and the fact that he is in endless competition with the world. As a product of single parenting, Francis had to learn on his own, build his personalities on his own and work every single bit or survival with little or no help. Francis is a fighter and a lone one to say the least. On a typical day, you will find Francis in a family of six with a matriarch holding the fort. From the outside, this was a perfect example of a family spearheaded by a single mother; children healthy looking and having the basic amenities – food, shelter, clothing and education; this should be a beautiful family. However, Francis was never fulfilled. There was something wrong. Something was not adding up. He felt empty. He could not explain it, so he expressed his frustration occasionally, through tantrums.
