Salieri was a very good teacher to Schubert and due to his guidance, the young Schubert was composing his first piano pieces, string quartets and songs. When he was thirteen he wrote his first piano composition which was a fantasia. At the age of seventeen Franz Schubert wrote his first masterpiece of Gretchen at the Spinning wheel.
