There were several times in the movie. When there was exposed sets and weird edits/ jumps in the film. Like near the end of the film one of the robber breaks some glass in a shop that they were going to rob. But then it just cuts to him running away from the shop. This was very sloppy and sense this is a professional film how could this have stayed in? Did they just not get enough takes of the guy running out of the shop? Now some might say it was to save time but there are other way it could have been done. Zinnemann could have just cut the either the scene or just reshot it a few times, and for the scene where the audience see’s the town behind the set. There is literally palm trees right behind the set. They could have fixed this by just cutting the slow zoom out by one or two seconds.
Another weak point is the films casting/ actors. They are all very wooden. It could just be that was the style the director was going for. Or it could be that’s how actor where back then. But it really hurts the emersion when you have all the actors acting wooden and stoic. They could have fixed this with better coaching for the actors, maybe have the actors give their input on the script, or just have them ad lib some stuff.
After all of this high noon. Had its high and low points. But it is a great film for someone studying film or just someone in general. If a person was studying film they would see great exams of who to use angles to present a film, and if they were just a general film goer not looking into things it would be a great suspense western. It’s definitely worth your time to
