Frederic Chopin was the foremost pianist of the Romantic period known as both a virtuoso performer and a great composer. Chopin was born in Zelazowa Wola which is a small village six miles from from Warsaw. The “when” of his birth however is not as simple as the “where”. Chopin is said to be born on February, 22 1810 per his baptismal certificate however another well accepted date of birth is March 1, 1810 (Morace 1). To make a simple matter of a date of birth even more complicated than it already should be it has also been also been recorded that the correct year of his birth is 1809 as per Chopin’s sister. Overall the most widely accepted date is March 2010. Chopin does not come from a wealthy family although both his mother and father were both well educated and they were in close contact with the upper-class. Chopin's father, Nicholas Chopin, was a Frenchman by birth however he emigrated to Poland at an early age. Nicholas was a tutor for a wealthy family which is where he met his wife Justyna who was part of the not so wealthy branch of the same family for which Nicholas worked for. (Morase 2) Not very long after Frederic’s birth, the whole family moved to Warsaw which is where young Chopin started developing his musical abilities. Initially he was motivated by his monther and sister who played the piano however very soon his natural ability was evident and by age 6 he was studying with Wojciech Zywny. By age seven he had already composed Polonaise in G minor, his first published work. (Morace 3) If the chain of events starting with his trip to Berlin had not begun then perhaps Chopin would had never left his hometown, never expanded his musical horizons, and perhaps being the young man that he was he may have gotten involved in the dangerous and failed revolt against the Russians therefore possibly erasing himself from the history we know. Thanks to his appetite for travel and his failed second trip to Vienna Chopin not only avoided the revolt but ultimately ended up in Paris where he lived until his death and offered the ideal setting to perfect his unique
