Frederick Douglass, former slave,abolitionist,and author was a very important figure to not only the harsh realities of slavery but also to the abolitiosnist movement. Not only did he get his own freedom he helped others to get their own. Born around the year 1817 in Tuckahoe near hillsborough Maryland Frederick lived like an average slave. Fredrick intially had the bailey last namebut would later change once he was free. His mother,Harriet bailey was an african american women and his father was a white man. Rumor around the plantation were fredericks father was the master of the plantation. Initially, Frederick doesn't know how to act because of Auld’s kindness.Being their first slave, Sophia Auld doesnt know its the wrong to treat frederick nice until her husband yells at her about it after he cathes her teaching fredrick to read. Reading become fredricks forbidden fruit. This is frederick's first realization that if he learns to read he will no longer be a slave. Douglass soon learns the slavery not only brutalizes slaves it also brutalizes the masters. Mrs Auld used to be a nice women but once she owns fredrick it changes everything. Now determined to read Frederick learns from the people around him. As time goes by his owner dies and he is given to his children Fredrick is then sent to a slave breaker, Mr Edward Covey. One night while frederick is being beaten frederick fights back and he runs away. Frederick comes back and they fight once again with nothing much happening after that. After the time at the rough plantation fredrick is sent to another plantation owned by Mr Freeland. Frederick comes up with a plan to escape by forging a slave pass with three other slaves but soon someone snitches and they’re caught Frederick throws his pas in the fire and the other eat theirs. After this dangerous attempt frederick decides to escape on his own.Frederick begins to work for Mr Hugh who garnishes all his wages while he is working at the dock,unbeknownst to him fredrick has been keeping a little money over time planning his new escape.
