Free Speech In 'The Giver'

People have a right to say whatever they want to say. No one has the right to stop them. We may not like some of the opinions people have, or the words that they use, but this is no reason to have the government take away people's natural right to speak.

For many, free speech is how they can get attention and the good kind of attention. For example, if someone is feeling sad and does not say anything to anyone then, there will be no one there to comfort them through that tough time. Like in the Giver,when Jonas’s family shares their feelings at the dinner table each night is it is a time were they tell their feeling but not freely. Jonas was going to lie to them about his feeling because he realized that he was not allowed feel these feelings and also because he had a limit to free speech. If he had no limit for free speech, he could have told his family what he was really feeling and they could have helped him. This could also be a solution to problem we may have in are regular daily lives.

We are always focused on our opinion that we forget that others have one too and that maybe there's makes more sense. Free speech is the only thing that allows us to interact with different people freely and develop more. It is something that should have no limits. As jonas had different rules from the other in his community, one of them were that he was aloud to ask any question of any citizen and he will receive an answers. If Jonas did not have these rules, he would not have found out what releasing is and that the community was not being honest with
