As the French, the British, the Spanish and Indian tribes fought in this war for land and power in America, land was distributed in accordance to the Peace of Paris. History book American History states "They [French] also transferred Canada and all other French territory east of the Mississippi, except New Orleans, to Great Britain. They ceded New Orleans and their claims west of the Mississippi to Spain," (Brinkley, 107). As this conveys, the French gave up all mainland of North America to Great Britain and Spain, turning the tides of American history. They began to travel westward, creating more tensions with the British parliament. As Britain needed to pay off the debts they created during this war, they began taxing the colonists, which fueled their want of independence and representation. "Unwilling to be taxed by parliament to support the war effort, the colonists were generally reluctant to tax themselves as well," (Brinkley, 108).
Due to these many occurrences and effects of the French and Indian War, the British Colonists began to think of themselves as independents from Britain, and wished to have power over themselves. This caused the start of the revolutionary movement in the colonies, and the beginning of America as we know it
