When you were at your lowest point, who was there to help you? In the Marrow Thieves, Frenchie has many important relationships that help him mature and grow as a person. These relationships, and friendships, are truly important to a person. They help people grow and understand. During Frenchie’s journey, Rose, Miig and RiRi have had a huge impact on his process to adulthood.

Firstly, Rose is a crucial part of the process of the Frenchie’s coming-of-age experience. Frenchie deeply cares about Rose as she is the love of his life, and having her forces Frenchie to learn a lot. An important concept that Miig helps Frenchie understand is that family does not have to be blood related. Frenchie sees Miig as a father, regardless of their biological connection. This teaches Frenchie that family is much more than just a word, but rather a true connection with people that Frenchie loves and cares about. This is something Frenchie should know and understand as he turns older. Frenchie said “I have to go.And I feel safe. Safe enough to leave him.” (189) This shows that Frenchie is willing to leave his blood family for his true family. This maturity and understanding of priorities is very important for his journey to adulthood. Next, Miig quite often takes the lead role in the group, and Frenchie adopts that trait as well. This is shown in the book when Frenchie decides to touch the electrical barbed fence, and stops Miig from doing it. He decides to do this because of the things he learns from Miig, as an adult being brave and taking initiative is very key. Miig brings out the bravery inside Frenchie, as adult men should be.
