Frida Kahlo was born in Coyoacan, Mexico on July 6, 1907 and died July 13, 1954 at 47 years old due to a pulmonary embolism. At 18 years old Kahlo suffered a tragic bus accident that left her with multiple major injuries. Kahlo had 30 operations in her lifetime, she this pain into surrealistic paintings full of pain, and passion, with vibrant colors. Most of her paintings were self-portraits and symbolized her emotions many of her paintings also featured the conflict she felt towards her love Diego Rivera. Diego and Kahlo had an epically painful love story that was full of hatred and betrayal these emotions fueled Frida Kahlo’s paintings. Over her lifetime she had 200 paintings, sketches and drawings, 143 were paintings, and 55 were self-portraits.
