Herman Hesse is telling the reader in the novel Siddhartha that friendships can last forever, no matter how far away you are from your friends. This is shown that even when Siddhartha and Govinda are far away they remain friends. Also when they are following different religions, they still remained friends. Another circumstance is between Kamala and Siddhartha. They are lovers for a while, but when the love dies out they part peacefully and remain friends. A massage that is prevalent in the novel as well is that you can't be given everything and all the knowledge in the world and reach happiness, but you have to find it and work for yourself to feel self worth.
