Frog’s Leap Winery’s founder/CEO John Williams has did an incredible job for his efforts at creating sustainability because he “had quietly developed the industry’s most sophisticated environmental management system” (Gamble, Peteraf, & Thompson, 2015, pg. 411). “Environmental management systems (EMS) had risen in importance for wine businesses, as they confronted survival threats from the natural world, such as rising energy prices, water scarcity, mounting concerns about chemical exposure, and climate change” (Gamble, Peteraf, & Thompson, 2015, pg. 411). Williams has resorted to organic and biodynamic growing techniques and has taken advantage of using energy self-sufficiency (solar power). For the short-term goals, the business should continue their dedication to green farming practices. Frog’s Leap should continue to increase sustainability by monitoring and lessening their water usage. Since water is one of the most valuable resources for winemaking, it is important for growing the grapes and creating the wine. The wine company should also continue to recycle their natural waste for compost. By recycling natural resources, Frog’s Leap will extend its money savings all while refilling their fields with nutrient-rich soil. Frog’s Leap can also look for new sustainable ways by encouraging and inspiring its consumers to recycle their wine bottles by offering incentives such as discounts and invitations to the wine tasting or the wine club. For the medium term goals, Frog’s Leap should increase its sales by building out the direct to consumer sales channels (tasting room and wine club). Expanding wine tours and online purchase alternatives will not only increase this, but this will also intensify inventory turnover as well as the sales and revenue.
