Does the type or fruit fly trap effect how many fruit flies the traps catch? Does the type of fruit fly trap effect how many fruit flies the trap catches. The hypothesis for this experiment was that the cone trap would catch more fruit flies than the saran wrap trap and the dish soap and vinegar trap. The procedures needed for this experiment where getting the three different types of traps and placing the lures inside each. Then you would place the traps outside and wait 1-2 hours and see which trap caught the most. The independent variable for my experiment was the type or trap used to catch the fruit flies. The traps used where, the dish soap and vinegar trap, the cone trap and the saran wrap trap. The dependent variable was haw how many flies the independent variable (the traps) could capture. The times the traps were placed outside, the lures used in the traps, the time of day, and the place where some of the constants that were used in my experiment. …show more content…
Once the flies began to get interested they would sit on the side or the trap or just hover around the trap, Most of the flies would get closer and closer to the trap until they decide to fly right into a trap. A pattern that was observed was that most of the flies went for the dish soap and vinegar trap. 4/5 flies would get trapped in the vinegar and dish soap trap. The averages for this experiment where, the cone trap had an average of 1.75 the saran wrap trap had an average of .334 and the dish soap and vinegar trap had an average of 7.75. The hypothesis was rejected because the vinegar and dish soap trap caught many more flies than the cone
