Gabriele D’Annunzio was born in the year of 1863, March 12, in the town of Pescara, Abruzzo, the son of a rich landowner and mayor of the town of Francesco Paolo Rapagnetta d'Annunzio (1831–1893).
His father had originally been born by the name of Rapagnetta which was the name of his single mother, but by the age of 13 he was adopted by a childless rich uncle Antonio d'Annunzio. Legend has it that he was initially baptized Gaetano and given the name of Gabriele later in childhood, because of his angelic looks. Not much is known of Gabriel's father as he was never in the picture throughout Gabrieles fame and fortune.
Gabrieles talent was discovered early when he was sent to the school Liceo Cicognini in Prato, Tuscany. He published his first poetry at the age of 16 while still in school, he only published small verses called Primo Vere (1879), influenced by Giosuè Carducci's Odi barbare. In which is a brutal imitation of Lorenzo Stecchetti. After taking flight with wilbur wright in 1908, gabriele had a fascination with aviation. So with the was beginning he volunteered to become a fighter pilot giving him greater celebrity when he lost sight in a eye during a flight accident. In February of 1918 he took part in a during military raid on the harbour of Bakar, helping to raise the spirits of the Italian people, still affected by the Caporetto disaster. August 9, 1918 as commander of the 87th fighter squadron "La Serenissima". Gabriele organized one of the greatest feats of the war.
