Gaming Violence Gaming violence has become one of the big talks on the media is the past few years. Scientists are trying to prove that people who play violent video games tend to be more aggressive and they are blaming mass shootings are influenced by video games. The gaming industry is continuing to grow and video games are becoming more violent and more realistic. There have been many studies on children and adults done by scientists, and the scientists are stating that brain activity have shown to be more aggressive after playing violent games, and or watching violent movies. Walter states ”Participants were given two versions of Digit Span Forward (DSF), a neuropsychological test that measures attention and concentration . Each subject was tested with DSF Version 1 at baseline and then again with DSF Version 2, immediately following 45 minutes of playing a violent video game” (Buckwalter 7). This shows that the participants in the study had more concentration and attention while they were playing the video games. After 45 minutes of gaming, their concentration tended to grow and they became more focused on the game. One of the main points that Walter makes is ”Results revealed that subjects performed significantly worse after brief exposure to a violent video game”(Buckwalter 7). Author Matt Peckham states that “If you play games where you shoot people — you’re going to really want to shoot people!”(Peckham) . He is trying to influence the media to believe that games are bad for the human brain. Scientist and authors all around the world are trying to influence pole in believing that violent video games do spur child aggression. Peckham also states that ”the reduction of all violence in video games and interactive media marketed to children and youth”, are a target effect cause by the industry (Peckham) . Peckham states that “In my recent research we found that for some teens with a pre-existing mental health issue, playing violent video games seemed to be associated with less bullying”(Peckham) , This is an example that people who play games that have mental issue may be a way to cope or to deal with their disorder by having enjoyment, which may also lead to more shootings if Peckham study is wrong. Violent games cause brain activity to be higher , which could also mean that the higher activity could be because of aggression, and the more a person concentrates on that violent game the more they are absorbing into their brain. The media has a big part in all the drama going on with violence, People communicate and put their own thought on the internet for others to see , and may even influence other people to do the same.
