The “Lifeboat Ethics” had an impact to people, the author, Garrett Hardin left many people thinking. His metaphor was describes as a lifeboat bearing 50 people, only one room for ten men. The lifeboat was surrounded by hundreds of swimmers. The involving part of the “ethics” comes from a dilemma of what happens with the swimmers, should they be taken aboard or not. Hardin compared his metaphor to another model of research. They then said it was like the rich nations and the swimmers being the poor nations. Some issues that were not necessarily included were that is it okay to accept or deny obvious dying passengers food and water, or to save it for the other living passengers?
