Gary Taubes wrote Why we Get Fat to inform us on the different reasons why we gain weight and the differences between the different people that gain weight.

Nature
Why we get fat is a sociological study. In the book, Taubes explains how different people gain weight in different ways. The fact that he finds and figures out are data on weight gain.

Summary of Book

What Taubes brings up that weight is ultimately about carbohydrates. Taubes finds examples of

They found that even runners gain weight and have to compensate that weight by running further and further. Taubes says that runners wanting to stay fit have to run marathons five days a week to stay fit; which sounds crazy, and it is. So Taubes says that the calorie intake and output is not true.
Taubes’ next topic of weight gain is cows. Taubes talks about the two cows he shows us; one is a milk cow and one is a meat cow. Taubes concludes with saying that the manipulation of the cows genes does not control how many calories the animal consumes and the calories it takes in and puts out is not supported.
Taubes then continues to talk about fat distribution and the differences in both men and women. He uses animals to use as a comparison to humans. He observes that wild animals, such as hippos and whales do not get obese. aving this claim, it could or could not be true, but it is a lack of data that is used to support weight gain of humans. In this explanation as well, Taubes belief is that carbs are the thing that makes us fat and that is independent of thermodynamics. Taubes wanted to support his claim so he looked into anthropomorphization, finding non-scientific relation relations between other species, like how elephants and hippos eat big amounts because they are big proving Distribution of calories is based off of the
