Gaston county has no sustainable development projects created or planned in the near future. Sustainable development is the development of an urban or suburban area that does not deplete natural resources in that area. This is a highly beneficial way of building mostly due to the fact that it allows for the environment and the ecosystem to continue a close to normal as possible. If more cities were built this way then they could be less reliant on things like oil, coal, and natural gas and more reliant on wind, solar and hydro power. This could decrease things such as CO2, methane and other greenhouse gas emissions, and possibly put a stop to global warming. Who could be the leader for this kind of change in our area and areas around the world? …show more content…
The effects of this could be phenomenal for the environment and even for human health giving people longer healthier lives and just making every breath someone takes cleaner. With the incentive that you might live longer, people may be more prone to helping the environment, everyone knows that a good bribe will normally convince people to do something or other. If we good have more sustainable development in places like Gastonia or Charlotte then that alone could help improve the environment of our local …show more content…
The most sustainably developed places in Gastonia would probably be any house that runs on solar power, due mostly to the fact that nothing else is sustainably developed. Another possible example of local sustainability would be some of the buildings instead of being destroyed and rebuilt they have been renovated and put to different use. Nonlocal places building sustainably include Denmark and the the Netherlands where they are heavily reliant on wind power and not so much on fossil fuels but that is mostly due to the fact that they are made up mostly of coastline. Gastonia does not have a major renewable resource that it can rely on such as sunlight wind or heated groundwater unlike places such as Denmark. Even though this is still a fairly new idea, many cities are beginning to implement these sorts of ideas to lower their environmental
