Vincent Freeman’s only dream was to work for Gattaca Aerospace Corporation so he could travel into outer space. However, this dream was considered impossible due to his natural birth, making him an in-valid. Vincent was born with a 99% chance of heart failure and was expected to die by 30. He was constantly told he would never become anything of value, just because his genes weren’t genetically modified close to perfection like his younger brother, Anton’s, were. Jerome, whose identity now taken by Vincent, went by his middle name Eugene. Vincent’s plan to achieve his dream were going off without a hitch until a week before the launch when the mission director, who had been opposing the launch, was murdered. The place was swept clean by the police in search of any leads and one of Vincent’s eyelashes were found at the scene. The lead officer was Anton, Vincent’s brother, and he covered for Vincent by lying and saying that the suspect and no living family left because he believed it was Vincent who had done it. During his time at Gattaca, Vincent, as Jerome, fell for a valid named Irene. Despite the geneticist's best attempts, she was born with a heart condition, preventing her from ever actually going into space. Before Vincent’s launch, Anton went back to the morgue to analyze the body one last time and found and untested sample of the killer’s spit in the victim’s eye. The evaluation proved that the killer was Vincent’s boss who had strongly supported the mission for it would be the only one in his lifetime.
