Some of the main ideas in Gatto’s essay that he wants to make sure everyone understands are that going to school should be something children enjoy, a place where they can learn things that are important for their lives and they will use for their future like history, art, music. He mentions the long hours every day at school for 12 years, how can they not be bored of sitting down listening to a teacher talk about something they don’t really want to know about.
